Writer and editor Barbara Brannon studied poetry with James Dickey at the University of South Carolina, an undertaking that did nothing to cure her addiction to rhyme and regular meter. Despite earning the MA and Ph.D. in American literature at South Carolina and the BA in art and English at Flannery O’Connor’s alma mater, she has published poems in Asheville Poetry Review, Cenacle, South Carolina Review, and Yemassee, among other outlets. She is a frequent contributor of travel and magazine feature articles and author of The Ferries of North Carolina: Traveling the State’s Nautical Highways, current director of a nonprofit in Texas, former director of the Publishing Laboratory at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a survivor of several university presses.
