Hindsight Little Willies: Scripture Edition

Jacob
Wrestling with his elder twin,
Little Jake would always win.
Pinning Esau? Piece of cake!
But wrestling with the Lord? Mistake!

King David
Young David took Goliath’s life;
As king, seduced Uriah’s wife.
“Adultery? No problem, kiddo.
I’m making you Uriah’s widow.”

Samson
Little Samson daily sighs
“Can’t see! Hair gets in my eyes.”
Grows up; meets Delilah, finding
Love is blind (and sometimes blinding).

Bob McKenty started dabbling in doggerel in 1942 at age seven. About to deliver a commissioned poem celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday, Bob was introduced as “an obscure minor poet—for reasons that will soon become apparent.”
