Gregor’s Blues

woke up this morning
had two limbs too many
woke up this morning
had two limbs too many
had a big, hard shell
and two unwieldy antenny

the folks were beating on the door
you best get up and get to work
the folks were beating on the door
you best get up and get to work
they burst into the room
took one look and went berserk

i tried to squeak an explanation
my boss ran out without his coat
i tried to squeak an explanation
he ran out without his hat and coat
take the day and see a doctor
you best believe i’ll need a note

mama called the doctor
he wouldn’t listen to her pleas
mama called the doctor
he wouldn’t listen to her pleas
evidently my insurance
don’t cover metamorphoses
