Code Switching

For Sam

When my overachieving,
ambition-driven
theretofore
conservative
college-aged son
finally came out,

he did not say
on that day,
Mom, I’m gay.

he said, Mom,

I’m sooooo gay.

On Learning to Relax

I’m learning
and I’m practicing

but I confess

I’ve always found
relaxing

somewhat taxing.
