Form and Theory of Poetry
(A fragment)

Today the sky is gray and threatening rain,
and so we’ve taken shelter here together
inside a crumbling building full of leaks,
to talk about free verse and watch the weather.

Robert West is the author of three chapbooks of poems, the latest of which is Convalescent (Finishing Line Press, 2011). He teaches in the Department of English at Mississippi State University. This fall, one of his poems will be reprinted in The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2013, edited by Dave Eggers.
