A Father’s Prayer

Gentle Jesus, meek and mild,
Shut the mouth of this damn child.
Till the child has learned to talk,
Gentle Jesus, stop his squawk.

Gentle Jesus, Prince of Peace,
Make his horrid crying cease.
Gentle Jesus, full of rue,
Muzzle him till he turns two.

Gentle Jesus, without sin,
Still the thunder, hush the din.
Mute the blasts that drive me wild,
Shut the mouth of this damn child.

A Monarch Named Oedipus Rex

A monarch named Oedipus Rex
Once practiced incestuous sex.
His ma was Jocasta,
He wooed, won, and lost ‘er,
And now she is Oedipus’ ex.
