Verdi’s cries

the ocean’s heartbeat pounds
beneath red sunset skies,
and seagulls echo sounds
of Verdi’s mournful cries;

how quickly disengage
these visions I would keep
when the opera up on stage
wakes me from my sleep!


purpleLDarla Graff Thompson has published two books of poetry, erratic, ecstatic, et cetera in 2009, and viscous drag, in 2014. She lives in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where she is a government scientist by day, allowing her to finance weekend poetry and related vices.
