Oh Gawd, Not Another Sonnet!

Need I apologize on bended knee
For my outpourings of iambic verse?
I seem to have this itch inside of me
To spill pentameters. I’ll reimburse
You for the cost of your analysis
Discussing my bombardment of your senses,
How it’s triggering paralysis,
And all connected medical expenses.
I wasn’t always as you see me now,
Overflowing with love’s urgent plea.
Should I ask you, dove, to disavow
Your ultimate responsibility?
You are my Muse, for better or for worse.
Is this a blessing or is this a curse?

David Hedges has a new book out, Capillary Action: Verse in a Light Vein. When not tending his flourishing vegetable and flower gardens he can be found tub-thumping on the front line of political activism and furthering various projects as a member of the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission.
