What the Philanderer’s Wife Said

Here’s to October
and long may it rain
for it will if we like it or not.
Why hate October
for being its plain
shifty self, instead of a hot

month. Like my husband,
it’s doing its best
in its pitiable state of decline.
It flails like my husband,
depressed and distressed,
but I smile, for at last he is mine.

Janice D. Soderling has published hundreds of poems and stories, long and short, over the years.  She is a previous contributor to Light. Her most recent collection is titled Rooms and Closets.
