Funeral for a Friend

We’ve got to get together soon,
We say at tragic times like this.
It’s been so long, I don’t know why.
Hey, call me Monday afternoon!

More idle chat, a goodbye kiss—
How versed we are, both you and I,
In all the same well-meaning lies
We’ll tell the next time someone dies.
