The Jock’s Lament

Have you ever noticed
in movies, shows, and books,
the villains are,
quite often,
jocks?

We may be hyper-coordinated, broad-shouldered,
hotter, faster, more charismatic,
and yes, we wear matching jackets,
Yet still. We don’t deserve this razzing.

The nerds are always virtuous,
but is that even accurate?
Just look at Zuckerberg.
The goths are always allies,
but they can be dangerous, too.
Was it not Ozzy Osbourne
who bit the head from an innocent bat?
The artists are always sensitive,
but we jocks are sensitive, too.
Hence, this poem.

So spare a thought for the poor jock.
We would never hurt you.

… Unless we’re playing football.
