Henny Youngman in the Garden of Eden

He stands up while the creatures slurp their peaches
And tells them jokes beneath the trees,
Then counts his bones and suddenly beseeches,
“Folks…take my rib…Please!”

Leslie Monsour has received five Pushcart Prize nominations and an NEA fellowship. Her poems, essays, and translations have appeared most recently in The Orchards, Alabama Literary Review, Extreme Sonnets, and Powow River Poets Anthology II.  Her Colosseum Critical Introduction to Rhina P. Espaillat is now available from Franciscan University Press.  She resides in Laurel Canyon in the Hollywood Hills, where she holds the office of Poet Laureate of Laurel Canyon.
