So, long before Escoffier,
Some cave-café gourmets
Would feast on escargots? Would play
The Flintstones in berets?

One hopes they had huge garlic cloves,
Big shallots, sage chopped fine,
A dash of lemon—and large stoves.
And didn’t stint on wine!
